Get in on the ground floor of a Missouri gov-tech startup that is changing how public policy gets made.
Spend the 2027 session in the Capitol, putting Red Eye in the hands of the lawmakers and citizens who shape and live under Missouri law.
About Red Eye
Red Eye makes Missouri government readable. Every bill, statute and regulation is public, but almost none of it is usable without paid help. We change that.
Red Eye Gov, our website and app, lets anyone ask a plain-language question about Missouri law and get an answer traced to the official source. No spin, no talking points, just what a bill actually does. Our motto is simple: All Policy. No Politics.
We launched in fall 2026. Our founders bring more than 50 combined years in Missouri government relations, public affairs and software engineering. Now we are heading into our first legislative session, and we want you there with us.
The role
You will be Red Eye's face in the Missouri State Capitol. Your job is to help lawmakers, their staff and visitors understand the bills in front of them, and to show people how to use Red Eye Gov to find answers on their own.
This is not a coffee-run internship. You will work directly with the founders, see how a startup is built from the inside, and leave with a network that reaches across both parties and both chambers.
Schedule
Hours are flexible and built around your class schedule. During the 2027 legislative session, January through May, we need time in the Capitol in Jefferson City Monday through Thursday, on the days you are available. Outside of session, work can be done remotely or from our Jefferson City office.
What you'll get
- A front-row seat to session
- Mentorship from seasoned founders
- Hands-on startup experience
- Relationships across the political spectrum
- A real voice in shaping the product
- Academic credit, where allowed
What you'll do
- Get Red Eye in front of lawmakers. Deliver plain-language bill summaries and Red Eye materials to legislative offices in the House and Senate, equally to members of both parties.
- Be the in-person product guide. Staff Red Eye's table in the Capitol rotunda, demo the app, and help visitors, advocates and staff download it and run their first search.
- Help people get unstuck. Walk users through asking questions, reading answers and following the source documents behind them.
- Bring back what you hear. Capture the questions people ask and the features they want, and share them with our product team. Your notes will shape what we build next.
- Support outreach. Help with session events, newsletters and social content that explain what is moving in the legislature.
- Learn the process up close. Attend committee hearings and floor sessions, and learn how a bill really becomes law in Missouri.
Who we're looking for
Soft skills matter most here. This role is about people: reading a room, building trust and making a complicated idea click.
- A college student or recent graduate headed toward business, communications, pre-law, government, public policy or technology
- Comfortable starting a conversation with a stranger, whether that's a senator or a school group
- Able to explain complicated things simply, and patient when someone needs a second try
- Comfortable with apps and websites, and quick to learn new tools
- Professional, reliable and committed to nonpartisanship. You represent a brand built on “no politics”
- Curious about startups and how new ideas get built
No prior Capitol experience required. We will teach you the building, the process and the product.

We don't post a pay rate. We ask you to propose one, the same way you will pitch a client, bid on a contract or negotiate an offer in your career. Base it on what you find about market rates for similar roles, your qualifications and your interest in this work.
We weigh cost and qualifications together. The lowest bid doesn't automatically win. And everything is negotiable, just like in business.
